We have all heard this term when it comes to the Vietnam war and all who are qualified to wear the Vietnam Veterans ring can educate you to the real deal on who they were. They were the dreaded Vietnamese people who were indigenous to South Vietnam who were not particulary happy about our being there.

The Viet Cong were members of the political party known as the National Liberation Front. This force resided in South Vietnam but were sympathetic to the political ideals of the North.

The words Viet Cong are a shortened form of the words Vietnam communist. The Viet Cong consisted of guerilla units, regular army units, and villagers who were not very well organized, armed. or equipped. One thing that I have is say is that they were tough as nails. I din't know exactly how much they were in league with the North Vietnamese Army but I do know that they had 3 classes of operatives. The guerilla fighters who were a part of that organization, a regular Army, and civillian villagers who were sympathetic to the cause. Some of them gave help in various ways and some would fight with or for the Viet Cong.
