The Sidewinder air to air missile will have its capabilities expanded. As a matter of fact it has already been done. This missile's software will be expanded to allow it to hit swiftly moving ground targets. This has been accomplished so it is a matter of whether the Marine Corps wants to go ahead with using it. We are used to seeing the movie shots of this missile being fired from one airplane into another, but now is time for us to expand our concept of use. 

The side winder can also be fired from aircraft at moving ships. this has also been accomplished. It has also successfully hit rapidly moving targets on the ground which were attempting to evade at the same time.

In other applications it has been fired from the ground and from submarines at aerial targets with success. The best thing is that the cost of modifying this missile is low so the modifications can be done with relative ease. This is really good news for all of you Marine Corps ring, and  Navy ring customers because it gives you so many more capabilities for the use of this weapon. It is definitely good news for all of you military ring customers because it will make you bwtter able to accomplish different missions.
