  1. resistanceA resistance movement is a group of people in a country which has been occupied who are dedicated to fighting against the occupying force. The resistance may be by acts of violence or acts of sabotage. The resistors are usually fighting in the defense of their homeland so they have everything to lose if they are defeated. Since they have little inherent power sometimes the resistance is passive.

We have encountered much resistance during our conduct of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. This has come in many shapes and forms. The resistor may refuse to answer questions or give information, he or she may give critical information or assistance to the enemy, or even take up arms and actively fight against that enemy.

I think that many of my Operation Iraqi Freedom ring people would agree that the resistance that we met was from largely misguided civilians. It is not a good thing to see your country invaded by foriegners and the natural tendency for anyone would be to resist. I think that the resistance that we met in Iraq has a large influence on our policies in Afghanistan.
