Operation Desert Storm was launched in 1990 with the intended purpose of evicting the Iraqi Army out of Kuwait.uring the buildup phase of the operation military troops lived in the Saudi Arabian Desert for about six months. Our initial forces went there in August so they went in the hottest part of the summer. Summer temperatures in the Arabian Desert would often top 140 degrees farenheit. Equipment would often break down in the searing heat and the sand would get into tank and helocopter intakes and ruin the engines. 

 

The US publis realized the power of air superioty during this time and witnessed the advent of the use of smart bombs in combat. Saddam Insane was surprised by the feriocity of the coalition attack which was nothing like what he expected it to be. It took our troops 100 hours to evict the Iraqi army from Kuwait and destroy most of their military. The American public got to see exactly what our military machine is capable of during this war.
