The Navy Cross has been awarded to Lance Cpl Joshua Mooi for his actions during Operation Iraqi Freedom on November 16th 2005. If you were to read the account of the battle in which he earned this award I'm sure that you will see that it is well deserved. The custom military ring is one way to preserve memories of special events such as this one.
I read the entire account of the firefight that the Marines were involved in and to say the least it was quite intense. We wouldn't be able to tell every detail of the story on a custom military ring but we would be able to give a summary.
Cpl Mooi's unit was clearing farmhouses in support of Operation Steel Curtain when the events took place. They had cleared most of the farmhouses when they came upon a group of about 2 dozen insurgents in the last house. The insurgents had prepared well fortified positions within the house while they waited on the Marines. They had put portholes in the walls of the farmhouse and were well supplied with ammunition and grenades. This was a well orchestrated ambush by the insurgents. They had obviously taken a lot of time preparing. Our Operation Iraqi Freedom customers are very familiar with this terrorist tactic.
Cpl Mooi had to make many trips across open territory to save several wounded Marines and to fight the enemy. His actions no doubt saved the lives of many of his comrades. This Marine's actions certainly honor the reputation of the Corps. All of you USMC ring customers should be proud of the way that he represented.
2nd Lieutenant Donald McGlothlin was killed in the battle when he apparently dived on a grenade to save the lives of several of his Marines. I must say that the Marines gave a good account of themselves. A special standing shout out goes to the Lieutenant. He gave it all. There is no more that he could possibly done. America you should be proud of the Marines who fight for your freedom.
All Operation Iraqi Freedom ring customers should read the account of this story because I just can't do it justice with this short post. When you read it you will be surprised and amazed at the heroic actions or our custom military ring customers.
