  1. Its been awhile since I was on active duty so I was not aware of this change until I started to write this post. The Military Airlift command as we know it was done away with in the early 90's. This obviously had to be because of the changing global tactical scenario. How do you like my big words? I'll bet that you didn't know that the custom Air Force ring man had it in him did you?

Air Mobility Command.svgThe Air Mobility Command was formed in 1992 with elements from the Military Airlift Command, and the Strategic Airlift Command. It's mission is to provide airlift, special missions, aerial refueling, and medical evacuation for US troops. Now notice the words special missions. I think that implies that it picks up the nuclear mission that SAC had. This seems like a way to say the same thing without arousing people to the fact that there is a nuclear mission.

In essence the Air Mobility Command transports our fighting men and women to the fight, not only them but all of the equipment that they need to use to do their jobs.  Some of the transport airplanes such as the C5 are huge. The C5 can even fly really heavy vehicles such as Abrams tanks to the battle. A C5 which is fully loaded has to be moved every few hours to prevent its weight from compressing the tarmac that it sits on. Think about the technology that it takes to get something that heavy to fly. This command rapidly gets our fighting men from point A to point B 24/7. We honor them by offering their emblem as a side panel design on our custom US Air Force rings.
