  1. Afghan Strategy Must Focus on al-Qaida

Our president is considering the request for more soldiers to go into Afghanistan and will make a careful deliberate choice in the next few weeks. He has reiterated that our mission was to destroy al-Qaeda and capture Osama bin Laden. He dosen't want the mission there to get any bigger than it needs to be. This sounds good to me. Our soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen know that their job must be done and they will do it but we don't need uneccessary deaths or casualties.

The president said that before a decision is made to send soldiers into harms way we must have a clear cut goal and a strategy to meet that goal this will avoid "mission creep" or our mission turning into something other than what it needs to be. President Obama went on to say that the mission should be evaluated every six months to make sure that we are still on track. If the president gets his way it will obviously mean less time overseas for our soldiers. Hopefully I will get to see some of my old Operation Enduring Freedom Ring customers again.

We can never change the customs or mannerisms of the Afghan people. Their values may be different from ours. If we allow ourselves to get sucked in we will end up defeated like we did in Vietnam. I am all for destroying al-Qaeda,but the truth is that we will never totally anniliate them. Many of my custom military ring customers have been deployed to the middle east three or four times.  Some of them have purchased Operation Iraqi Freedom Rings, while others have purchased Operation Enduring Freedom Rings. I'm sure that any news of a shorter tour of duty will be good news to them.
