The USS Freedom represents a new day in Navy technology. It is one of the new class of ships called littoral combat shjips (LCS). This ship will be deployed 2 years ahead of schedule. The Navy feels that the capabilities of this ship and current mission requirements warrant the early deployment.

I think that the Freedom will be a good weapon in the fight to stop international piracy. It has more speed and stealth than anything else in the ocean. It's obvious that we have to step it up to the next level in order to effectively deal with this threat, I believe that we can contain it but it is too lucrative a business for the pirates for us to be able to stop completely.

The accelerated schedule will probably cause some minor problems for the crew but they will be able to work through them. The USS Freedom will certainly be a force multiplier with all of the technology that it brings to the table. We do offer a Freedom US Navy ring as one of our products but it is not named after the USS Freedom.
