Soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division will soon deploy with the newer M-320 grenade launcher. The division is currently training the 1st BCT grenadiers on the use of this new weapon.

When I looked at the changes in this new weapons system it appears to me that they are designed specifically for operations Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. The reasons that I say this are; The launcher is about 3 inches shorter than the M-203 which it replaces. It can also be quickly detached from and reattached to the soldiers combat rifle. These changes make it a better weapon for close quarters combat.

The M-320 also has improved sights which are more durable and capable than the sights on the M-203. The new sight is equipped with a laser range finder which gives a vast increase in accuracy, and it has an infrared night capability which makes it a lethal and accurate weapon during night operations.
