C-4 is a well known military explosive which is mainly composed of cyclonite. It is produced by mixing this explosive with plastic fillers and some other materials in a solvent and allowing the solvent to evaporate.

I had the opportunity to work with this explosive while I was in the military as did many other custom military ring customers. It was pretty much the standad explosive used then. I don't know what the standard is now. I wouldn't be surprised if the military has come up with something better. The people who would know this would be my explosive ordinance disposal ring customers.

This explosive is excellent for many different uses and is also very stable. You can't blow it up just by lighting it with a match or dropping it. This is good for military applications which means it can handle the stresses of being used and transported by combat units.

Another factor which makes it ideal for demolition is that it can be molded. This gives it the flexibility to be used in a wide variety of applications. It can be shaped for extra effect on irregular shaped objects to be destroyed or made into shaped charges. The benefit of using a shaped charge is that the force of the explosion is concentrated on a small area so that you can get greater effects with a smaller amount of explosives.
