The US Coast Guard rescued 113 Haitian survivors and recovered another 11 bodies in a rescue on July 21st. The rescue took place off of the Turks ans Caicos Islands which are located in the Carribbean between the Bahamas and Haiti.

The sailboat was reported to have about 200 passengers aboard it when it capsized. The passengers were refugees who were trying to make refuge in the United States or the Bahamas. The reason that the boat capsized was partially due to overcrowding but mainly due to the fact that the boat ran aground on a shallow reef when it tried to dodge a police vessel.

I think that it is so unfortunate that conditions are so bad in Haiti that people are forced to put their lives on the line just to escape poverty. I am not a politician and certainly not the smartest man in the world but it is obvious to me that something needs to be done. I don't have the answer nor do I profess to have a solution but I think that this situation is deplorable.
