The Air Force is flying a new stealth drone in Afghanistan. Some of you Air Force custom military ring customers may know about but I'm sure that most of you don't. I was in the dark until just a few minutes ago myself.

There is question about why the Air Force would have to employ such an aircraft in a country where the insurgents have little or no radar to detect them anyway. Some of the speculation is that maybe they are being used to fly surveillance into Iran and Pakistan.v It is not quite clear just what the capabilities of these drones are but this particular drone is not armed.

The Air Forces 30th Reconnaissance Squadron is the unit which operates this aircraft which is named the RQ-170 Sentinel. It is also known as the "Beast of Kandahar." We really don't know what this aircraft is capable of doing and seeing. Technically its mission is to provide reconnaissance and surveillance support to forward deployed combat forces.

If you have been affiliated with the military in any way shape or form for any amount of time you know that this definition can probably be twisted a million different ways. It dosen't really tell us a thing at all. All of you custom military ring customers know that is about par for the course. Do you Desert Storm ring customers remember when we were about to be deployed? I know that I had to watch CNN to find out what was going on. I learned more from the news than I did from my unit.
