General William Orlando Darby is the man who started the movement that led to the founding of the US Army Rangers. He entered the Army in 1933 as a Second Lieutenant and later in his career he trained with and studied the British Commandos. This gave him the inspiration for his commando unit which was initially known as Darby's Rangers. Darby's Rangers eventually became the present day US Army Rangers.

General Darby was actually a Colonel at the time of his death but was promoted to General posthumusly. I know for a fact that any and all of my customers who purchase Army Ranger rings are intimate with general Darby's history. He is well respected and honored in the Ranger community.
