  1. Graves at Arlington on Memorial Day.JPGArlington National Cemetery is named for Arlington county VA where it is located. The cemetery was established during the Civil War on the grounds of General Robert E. Lee's wife's estate. There are soldiers buried there from each war that we have fought and there have some pre Civil War dead interred there also.

The cemetery covers an area of 624 acres and contains the remains of over 300,000 people. There are well over 20 burials conducted each day. The cemetery is constantly expanding to accomodate future burials.

Arlington National Cemetery contains many monuments along with the tomb of the unknown soldier. The cemetery would be an excellent tour because of the history that it contains. There are an average of more than 20 burials there per day and there are also accomodations for cremated remains.

There are tough restrictions that have to be passed if you are to be buried at Arlington. This cemetery is a type of memorial to honor the memories of those who are buried there. There are many types of memorials that we can have. I have a custom military ring that I had made as a memorial for the time that I served in the military. My custom military ring is not for a specific war or conflict. I chose to let it speak of my service in broader terms. I will leave my service ring to my grandson for him to remember me.
