Our government has just finished a round of careful evaluation of new war strategy in Afghanistan. They wargammed each scenario which was suggested for action to try to figure out all of the possible pitfalls and strengths of each. At least this administration is taking a measured, even, intelligent, approach to solving the problem. President Obama did announce that the mission would be evaluated and I believe that this is part of the process. We need to redefine our mission there and make sure that we don't waste lives and resources unnecessarily.

Any new strategy will have to employ the Afghan forces to the fullest. The widespread corruption in the Afghan government is a big problem. The Afghan government needs to win the hearts and minds of the people before they can establish firm control. This is one of the things that our government is pressing for before we commit extra resources. Once we retake Taliban and al-Qaeda strongholds the Afghans must be able to maintain control in order to realize victory.
